The superfast daily Magadh Express runs between New Delhi (station code NDLS) and Islampur (station code IPR) near Patna. The train travels the distance of 1065 km in 19 hours 35 minutes, thus giving it an average speed of 54 km/h. The train, run by the Northern Railway, stops at 25 stations on the way, including some important places like Aligarh, Kanpur, Allahabad, Mughal Sarai, Ara, Danapur and Patna. Extension to Islampur;
Initially, it was a Patna-New Delhi train with carriages of the Vikramshila Express. This train now runs separately (numbers 12367 and 12368) between New Delhi and Bhagalpur). The initial Magadh Express (numbers 3467/3468) was running up to Bhagalpur and covering the distance of 998 km in 15 hours, 5 minutes. Now the train has been extended to Islampur, stoppages have been increase and more superfast trains are running the same route. So the Magadh Express is regularly delayed by four to five hours.

A 24-Coach Train;
The 12401 Magadh Express leaves Islampur at 4.10 pm and arrives in New Delhi at 11.45 am the next day. The 12402 Magadh Express starts from New Delhi at 8.10 pm and reaches Islampur at 1.55 pm the next day. The train usually has 24 coaches, which include 2 general sleeper coaches, 1 first AC coach, 1 two-tier AC coach, 2 three-tier AC coaches, 11 sleeper coaches, a pantry car and 6 general compartments. The train is named after the Konark temple, the 13th-century Sun Temple in Odisha’s Puri district, 65 km from Bhubaneswar. The black granite temple, now a world heritage site, was built by King Narasimhadeva. Designed in the form of a huge chariot, the temple has seven horses and 24 wheels, carrying the sun god.

The train number 1225 / 1226 Bhopal – Hazrat Nizamuddin Express was cancelled and Bilaspur – Bhopal Chhattisgarh Anchal Express got extended to Hazrat Nizamuddin. Anchal, the prefix was removed at this time, and this train now was independently called the Chhattisgarh Express.
  • 1997: It was in this year that the Chattisgarh Express saw a revision in its route and got extended further to commute till Amritsar Junction.

History –
