The Vishakhapatnam Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express (VLTT), 18520/LTT VSKP EXP, is a train that connects the City of Destiny (Vishakhapatnam) with the City of Dreams (Mumbai). It is a Superfast Mail / Express Train run daily by the Indian Railways. The Railways (East Coast) of India operates this train. It takes 26 hours and 5 minutes to run the train between Terminus of Lokmanya Tilak and Visakhapatnam Junction, stretching for 1,502 km.

History –

The service was flagged off in 2010 on March 24. The number of the train happened to be 22819 / 22820. The train was launched by Minister of State for Human Resources at Union level – Purandareswari. D. at the railway station of Vishakhapatnam. Local MPs, MLA’s of Vishakhapatnam district and officials of Railways of East Coast were present. It was started as a bi-weekly, but it is now a daily train as per the Rail Budget of 2013-14. From 2014 September, the position of 22819/22820 Vizag- Mumbai Express was deemed as ‘Ordinary Express’ with a number denoted by 18519/ 18520.

Train Route –

The train stops at Pune, Solapur, Gulbarga, Wadi, Vikarabad, Secunderabad junction, Kazipet, Vijayawada junction, Gudivada, Kaikaluru, Akkividu, Bhimavram, Tanuku and Rajahmundry on the route to Vizag. It traverses the same route on its way back, just the next way round.

The train comprises of an AC First-Class coach, a single AC Two Tier coach, single AC three tier coach, 8 coaches of Sleeper Class, 2 Unreserved Sleeper Coaches and 6 Unreserved General coaches.

The hauling of the train is done by the locomotive WDM 3A in the route Vizag towards Secunderabad and by locomotive WAM 4 in the rest of the journey from Secunderabad to Lokmanyatilak.

The train provides superfast links from Vizag to Secunderabad. It departs from Vizag at 9 am and reaches Secunderabad at 21 hours. It reaches LTT, Mumbai at 11.05 am the next day.

Vizag Railway Station stands on the Howrah- Chennai main line. It is under the control of the East Coast railways. The station happens to be a terminal: trains must go back the way that they arrived. This is a major source of confusion as it takes time for trains to arrive and depart from the station. As such, many trains are held up at the Duvvada station.

The number of passengers travelling daily between Vizag and Secunderabad is over 5000. To clear the rush there are over 18 trains operating between Vizag and Secunderabad.

Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) is a railhead in Mumbai’s Kurla suburb. It is managed by Central Railways. In the proximity are the Tilak Nagar and Kurla suburban railway stations. LTT is one among several stations in Mumbai. Others are Dadar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus on the Western line.

LTT is situated at the midpoint of 2 suburban lines- Kurla along the harbor line and Tilak Nagar. It is easy to access via Railway station of Tilak Nagar since there is an overhead direct bridge commencing Tilak Nagar to LTT. Through a level crossing, a common service of rickshaw can be accessed from Kurla to LTT. Average time taken for opening of level crossing gate amounts to 20 minutes.
