Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan as well as its largest city. Known as the Pink city, it was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber.
As a city, it is comprised of a palace quarter and all its surrounding areas. The inside of the quarter encloses the Hawa Mahal palace complex, formal gardens, and a small lake. Among other famous tourist spots in the city, the Nahargarh Fort, which was the residence of the King Sawai Jai Singh II, it crowns the hill in the northwest corner of the old city. The observatory, Jantar Mantar, happens to be one of the World Heritage Sites.
Jaipur is arguably one of India's favored tourist destinations, both for Indian and foreign travelers. In the 2008, according to Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Survey, Jaipur was ranked the 7th best place to visit in Asia.
An indicator of its touristic attraction is the Presidential Suite at the Raj Palace Hotel, billed at US$45,000 per night, which is listed at number 2 on World's 15 most expensive hotel suites complied by CNN Go in 2012.

Some of the crafts include bandhani, block printing; stone carving and sculpture, tarkashi, zari, gota, kinari and zardozi, silver jewelry, gems, kundan, meenakari, miniature paintings, blue pottery, ivory carving, shellac work, leatherware etc.
