Legend has it that the Raja of Orchha and his friend, the Raja of Jaitpur were on the roof of Orchha Palace. The Raja of Orchha asked his friend if he could visualize the new fort he had built on Bangara hill. The friend said, “Jhainsi” (meaning, not quite clearly). The name Jhansi came from that expression.  The fort became a strategic post in central India. It inspired Jhansi Ki Rani to proclaim, “Meri Jhansi nahi doongi.” It’s time Jhansi produces another personality of the stature of Maharani Laxmi Bai.
