Tughlakabad is a suburban area located in the Southern Delhi state and has been named after the Muslim ruler Muhammad-bin-Tughlak. It is a densely populated area and one of the main industrial areas of Delhi and majorly has textile export and processing houses. The main attraction for tourists is the Tughlakabad Fort, which was built by the founder of Tughlak Dynasty, Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlak. Tughlakabad Railway Station or TKD comes under the control of Delhi Division of Indian Railways and is a major railway station on the Kanpur-Delhi line. Around 33000 commuters are served by this railway station on a daily basis. Most of the trains that stop here are EMU trains and are used by most of the commuters from neighbouring areas such Mathura, Agra, Palwal, and Faridabad.

Facilities at Railway Station Tughlakabad –

The railway station has two platforms and has two entrances in the west direction and the other in the north direction towards Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. It has a computerised booking office for both reserved and unreserved tickets. Despite the fact that it is used by so many passengers daily, railway station has no parking facility.

Apart from passenger trains, it also has an Inland Container Depot and a Container Freight Station, which also serves as Domestic Container Terminal. There is broad gauge Diesel loco shed at this station, which has more than 150 locos. Along with a diesel loco shed, it also has an electric loco shed, which has around 140 locos. This loco shed is meant to serve freight traffic that the busy Delhi-Mumbai Line bears.

The railway station of Tughlakabad also has a good connectivity to Delhi metro via Tughlakabad metro station, which is on the violet line of the Delhi metro and is the second last metro of this line of Delhi metro.
