Railway Stations in Ghaziabad

The Ghaziabad city, a district place in Uttar Pradesh, is a part of Delhi’s National Capital Region. The neatly-planned industrial city has a good road and railway network.  The Hindon river passes through the city dividing it in Trans-Hindon and Cis-Hindon. It is western Uttar Pradesh’s top commercial, industrial and educational center, but it is also a city of high crime rate and a highly polluted city.

Ghaziabad Railway Station (station code GZB) is a junction of the Northern Railway on the Howrah-Delhi main line with several lines passing through the city. The main railway station is at the city center, but the city has several other railway stations. These are New Ghaziabad Railway Station (station code GZN), Sahibabad Railway Station (station code SBB), Mahrauli Railway Station (station code MFH), Adhyatmik Nagar Halt Railway Station (station code AKNR) and Guldhar Railway Station (station code GUH).

There are regular local electric train services to various stations in the National Capital Region from Ghaziabad. Ghaziabad is just 27.5 from km New Delhi Railway Station, 25.1 km from Old Delhi Railway Station, 28.9 km from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and 18 km from Anand Vihar. Ghaziabad is linked with Delhi and other cities like Meerut, Aligarh, Faridabad, Palwal, Mathura, Allahabad, Indore, and Ujjain by regular train services. The station has six platforms.

The amenities available for train passengers at Ghaziabad Railway Station include water coolers providing safe drinking water, waiting rooms, and refreshment rooms serving vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, computerized reservation, book stall, and telephone booths.

The electric loco shed at Ghaziabad serves the Delhi region. It is a maintenance hub for the country’s fastest locomotives, which are mostly deployed for running the Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto express trains.

Electrification of lines

The electrification of the Tundla-Aligarh-Ghaziabad sector was achieved 1975-76. The Ghaziabad-Nizamuddin-New Delhi-Delhi sector followed suit in 1976-77. The ongoing electrification work on the 140-km Ghaziabad-Moradabad line is scheduled to be completed by 2015. The electrification work on the 254-km Khurja-Meerut-Saharanpur line, including the Ghaziabad-Meerut link, has been completed.

The East Indian Railway Company introduced its train services on the Howrah-Delhi line as far back as 1866. The Meerut and-Delhi railway line stretch was built in 1864. The Sind, Punjab and Delhi Railway’s 483-kilometre Amritsar–Ambala–Saharanpur–Ghaziabad line was completed in 1870. It connected Multan (in Pakistan now) and Delhi. The Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway commissioned the Ghaziabad-Moradabad link in 1900.

Sahibabad Railway Station

Sahibabad Railway Station is used mostly by residents along the GT Road. A large section of the population commutes by Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) trains to Delhi, Meerut, Hapur and Ghaziabad.

Vaishali Ghaziabad Metro station

Many areas of Ghaziabad already have access to Delhi Metro services. The Delhi Metro authorities, Uttar Pradesh government and Ghaziabad civic authorities have already signed agreements to extend the Metro services further. The work has already begun and expected to be completed in 2017.

The Delhi Metro reaches Dilshad Garden station at present.  This line will be extended to Old Bus Stand, Ghaziabad by 2016-17. Vaishali in Ghaziabad is an elevated metro station on Delhi Metro’s Blue Line and is a very busy station.  It was opened for passengers in 2011 and serves the area around it and Vasundhara and Indirapuram.  It provides parking facility for two-wheelers and cars. Commuters from Vaishali, Indirapuram, Vasundhara and Sahibabad use this station every day. The Metro service boosted the realty rates in the region.

Kaushambi Ghaziabad Metro station

Kaushambi in Ghaziabad is an elevated metro station on Delhi Metro’s Blue Line. It was opened in 2011 and has parking facility for the commuters in the area.

Food delicacies from Ghaziabad

Being a cosmopolitan culture of the city, the food habits are pretty similar to Northern India especially Delhi.  The city’s traditional cuisines are highly influenced by Mughlai means of cooking because of Mughal rule. It is also famous for Nawabi Cuisines due to influence of people moving in from Lucknow. You can find a variety of food such as Chats, Pakoras, Samosas, and regional food such as Rajasthani, Gujarati, Marathi and Bengali besides Italian, Continental, and Chinese.
