Overview of Tumkur Railway Station

Tumkur Railway Station (codenamed TK) is located in Tumkur district of Karnataka, India. The station falls under the Tumkur taluk and is the suburban halt for the trains on the Chennai-Hubli railway line. The station is renovated in 2009 and is one of the modernized railway stations during the reign of former railway minister Mamata Banerjee. The station is well-connected to various parts of the country. There are express and super-fast trains that cross Tumkur railway station daily from cities like Chennai, Bijapur, Hubli, and others. The station falls under the administrative control of Bangalore division under South Western Railways Zone of Indian Railways. Tumkur railway station is located at 64 Kilometres from Yesvantpur station, 76 Kilometres from Bangalore East, and 69 Kilometres from Bangalore City Junction.

A total of 39 express trains stop at this station and serve a regional hub for all the passenger needs in Tumkur district. The modernisation efforts really changed the landscape of the station with inflow of passengers visiting the station for affordable transport to the mainland city of Bangalore. There are four platforms at the station and the station also handles freight trains along its corridor. The nearest railway station is Kyatsandra railway station located at 6 Kilometres.

Tumkur Railway station is located at 75 Kilometres from the Bangalore International Airport and well-connected with the intercity buses. The station is well-connected to Tumkur (5 KM), Nelamangala (26 KM), Vijayapura (36 KM), Madhugiri (43 KM), Magadi (46 KM), and other important taluks. The nearest tourists’ locations from the station are Lepakshi, Nandhi Hills, Shivaganga, Savandurga, and Bangalore.

The station has all the basic passenger amenities, waiting halls, and drinking water supply, book stalls, cafeteria, and even a large parking area for passengers. South Western Railways expect Tumkur station to be upgraded to be a terminal soon with capacity to serve 100,000 passengers in the near future.
