Overview of Mandya Railway Station

Mandya Railway Station (codenamed MYA) is one of the suburban stations in the Maddur taluk, Mandya district, Karnataka. The station is near to Mysore Junction and is the halt for over 20 express trains on the Mysore-Bangalore railway line. There are express and super-fast trains that cross Mandya station daily to major cities like Bangalore, Tirupathi, Chennai, Ajmer, Tuticorn, and Sai Shirdi. The station is controlled administratively by Bangalore division under South Western Railways Zone of Indian Railways. Mandya railway station is located at 20 Kilometres from Maddur station, 44 Kilometres from Mysore Junction, and 93 Kilometres from Bangalore City Junction.

Mandya station is the rally point for many passenger trains that commute on this line daily. Some of the popular trains are Malgudi express, Night Queen Passenger, Rajya Rani Express, Tippu Express, Chamundi Express, and Kaveri Express. There are no trains originating from Mandya railway station, but the frequency of both express, super-fast, and passenger trains crossing the station have risen over the years. The station daily registers a high passenger inflow and very soon will be a major station in the region. The nearest railway station is Yeliyur Railway station located at 10 Kilometres.

Mandya Railway station is located at 41 Kilometres from the Mysore Domestic Airport and well-connected with the inter-city buses. The station is well-connected to Maddur (19 KM), Malavalli (28 KM), Shrirangapattana (29 KM), and other important taluks. The station is near to many tourists’ locations like Cauvery Water Falls, Shivapura, Krishnarajasagar dam, Pandavapura, Tirumalasagara, Shivapura, and Nagamangala.

The station is currently undergoing renovation to handle additional passenger traffic. The proposed track doubling project between Mysore and Bangalore is underway and shall be completed by 2015. Additional budget is provided for facilities modernisation under the aegis of D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Railway Minister (May 2014- Till date). There is also provision for air-conditioned prepaid halls, book stalls, fully computerized reservation counter, and other basic amenities for the passenger’s benefit. The station also has a 24X7 enquiry counter to help passengers with information related to their travel. Mandya Station will be the hub for railway services and maintenance workshop for Maddur district, and soon will have trains originating from here to connect major cities like Mysore and Bangalore.

Mandya offers authentic south Indian cuisines, and often their cuisines are considered spicy. Maddur Vada, Upsaaru Khara, Poriullu, and Maddur mutton boti masala are some of the local favourites. Although vegetarian dishes are widely consumed, mutton and chicken dishes are delectable with spicy flavour. Murgh Tikka masala, Shimla Murg, Dum Handi gosht, and Palak Gosht have been rated best non-vegetarian dishes to try at Mandya in your next visit.
