Delicious Dishes to Gorge on in Shahdol

Shahdol is a city, which is situated in Madhya Pradesh. It is a small place which has not much hustle bustle. This is a quiet place with a very few population. But this place should be visited for the food that they serve. Though most of the dishes that local people serve here are vegetarian, still they are too delicious to miss.  Food is the essence of this small town and a tourist must taste them.

Peace Pilaf: This is a kind of pulao, which is very popular here. It is made of green peas, fried rice and spices. Cardamom, cloves and carrots are also added for that extra flavour and colour. Served with curd and daal (yellow lentil soup), this is one dish one must try while visiting here.

Palak Puri: The best dish served here. The puris are green in colour as it is made with the paste of spinach. A mixture of spinach and spices are deeply fried and then stuffed in wheat dough, and then, fried again before serving. Aloo (potato) sabzi and spicy pickles are served with it. It is a delicious breakfast item and is a mandatory dish for the local people during holidays and weekends.

Roti and Thick Daal: This is a regular dish in every part of Madhya Pradesh. Shahdol is also not an exception. Wheat dough is prepared and rotis are made out of it. Yellow lentils are cooked in low spices for the thick daal.TravelKhanaChokha: Eggplant is the main ingredient for this dish. It also contains potatoes, green chillies, tomatoes and spices and is served with rotis. Sometimes green chillies, onions and lemon juice are also added for extra garnishing and to bring a tangy twist in the dish.

Sabudana Khichdi: The most healthy and light dish served here. Made from white sabudana or Tapioca Pearls, this dish also keeps the digestion system healthy and hassle free. But in this place there is a twist in the taste. Local people add roasted peanuts in this preparation. Green chillies, cumin seeds and a bit of sugar are also added to enhance the taste. Sometimes dry fruits are also added to it.

Kheer: People say that the most delicious kheer is served in Shahdol. It is also known as rice pudding where cashew nuts, pista and dried almonds are used along with sugar syrup and boiled condensed milk. Sometimes saffron is also added to it. The perfect sweet dish to end your meal with! This is mainly a festive preparation and is enjoyed mostly in winter.

Malpua: The Indian version of pancake made with honey. It is also made with flour, curd, semolina and milk.
