Nanded: where culture meets cuisine

Situated on the bank of river Godavari, Nanded is a beautiful city where Maurya dynasty used to reign in past. Thus, the culinary tradition that is present here has a royal touch to it. When people come here and try to look for food delivery in Nanded, they should not miss the delicacies served here.

Nanded people lead a cosmopolitan life. This is because people from various communities reside here side by side. The main five communities residing here are Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Muslims and Buddhists. Though this place has a rich culinary tradition, yet there is a great influence of Hyderabadi cuisine on it. This rich culinary tradition is thus a blend of a pan Indian cuisine. Here, the meat based dishes are cooked with a lot of spices just like they do it in Hyderabad. Does this mean that Nanded has not a single culinary attraction of its own? This is not true. It will be a crime if you are at Nanded and you do not get introduced to Tehri, which is a special delicacy of this locality. This is mainly a rice based dish cooked with a lot of spices and fresh vegetables. Sometimes meat is also added to it. There is another popular dish which is served here often. It is the Biryani cooked in Hyderabadi style. Long grained rice, meat and lot of spices are used to cook this dish. We all know that we can enjoy this Biryani in Hyderabad and this is not a special dish of Nanded, but still you can try it. This is because apart from Hyderabad, this is the only place which will serve you authentic Hyderabadi Biryani in India. This dish is served with curd raita and tomato chutney. You can also try your hand on Zuna Bakhri. A dish made of mixed vegetables, onion, garlic and green chillies. It goes best when served with chapattis or parathas. Sabudana Khichdi is again a common dish served here, which is also a healthy one. One can have it at any time of the day and this keeps the digestion system clear.

Street foods are also popular in this region. The road side vendors offer plenty of snacks like samosas, aloo tikki, bhel puri, papri chaat, fruit salads and other finger licking dishes. They are famous because people love to have it as evening snacks when they come back from daily work or when going out with friends and family.

Sweet mystery

The special sweet dish of Nanded is known as Imarti. The main ingredient used in it is lentil flour. Flour batter is coiled and slightly fried. Then it is soaked into sugar syrup for some hours before serving it hot. It is a Jalebi style sweet but has a local touch to it.

Thus, when visiting Nanded, you cannot miss these special items that are served here by the local people.
