The capital of Orissa is Bhubaneswar, which has a history of more than 3000 years. It is also commonly recognized as the ‘Temple City of India’. Malpua: A pancake made with honey, it is also offered to Lord Jagannatha during the pujas.

Rasmalai: Juicy cream, which is made of sugary white, cream or yellow colored balls (flattened balls) of paneer, which are soaked in malai. It is also flavored with cardamom.

Chhana Jalebi: A sweet delicacy from coastal Orissa. Made of fresh Chhana (prepared by cow milk) coiled into circular shapes and deeply fried in oil. It is then dipped in sugar syrup for a long time before serving.

Munchies

Gup Chup: Mainly known as Panipuri worldwide, it is served with pulses, onions and tamarind water.

Dahi Bada: Dough is made of lentil and deeply fried in oil. Then it is mixed with yogurt and served with tamarind sauce.

Aloo Dum: Small round potatoes are boiled and then cooked with spices like chilies, garlic, ginger and onions. It is a tasty snack for all.

Ghugni: Pulses are boiled and then cooked with various spices.

Dahi Pakhai: Mainly acts as a cooler during summers. It is a preparation of rice soaked in yogurt and salt.

There is a special thali which is devoted to the idols here. It consists Dalma (made of fried vegetables and lentil), and Santula (spicy steamed vegetables). Sweets like Pitha (sweet bread) are also dedicated to the God.
