The 12280/79 Taj Express running every day between Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station and Jhansi Junction initially started its service between New Delhi and Agra in 1964. New Delhi and Agra continue to be major tourist attractions of India; one being the capital of the country, while the other holds the most beautiful monuments of country. Seeing the massive flow of tourists between these locations throughout the year, the government launched the Taj Express, which came as a great relief and soon became the first choice of national and international tourists across the country.

The importance of the Taj Express for daily travelers increased largely when the train was extended till Jhansi Junction on July 1 2006. The Taj Express now covered other major locations like Gwalior and Jhansi as well. Hence, the Taj Express today covers 403kms in approximately 7hours.

The Taj leaves Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station at 7:05 am every day and on its route it halts at nine stations which are, Faridabad, Mathura, Raja Ki Mandi (Agra), Agra Cantt, Dhaulpur, Morena, Gwalior Junction, Dabra, Datia and Jhansi. If on time, the Taj Express ends its journey at Jhansi Junction at 2:00 pm on the same day. The return train, which is 12279 Taj Express, departs from Jhansi at 3:20 pm and reaches back to Nizamuddin railway station by 10:05 pm same night.

The 12280/79 Taj express was aimed at easy daily travel for working individuals. The route and train timings are perfect for working individuals in Delhi as the train leaves early morning by 7 am and reaches back to Delhi by 10 pm same day.
