Overview of Jammu Tawi Railway Station – JAT

Jammu Tawi (station code JAT) is a major railway station for Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism industry. Most tourists arrive in Jammu and move on in the Kashmir Valley. The Jammu Tawi Railway Station is in the Ferozpur division of the Northern Railways. Jammu had an old railway station since 1897. The railway line connected the city with Sialkot, now in Pakistan, 43 km away. The line also linked Jammu with Wazirabad and Narowal, both in Pakistan. The station was abandoned after the Partition.

The work on the Pathankot-Jammu Tawi broad gauge line began in 1971. The Jammu Tawi station was inaugurated in 1975. The old railway station was razed in 2000 to make way for an art centre. The Jalandhar-Jammu section and Jammu Tawi station were electrified in 2014-15. Swaraj Express and Himgiri Express now get WAP engines right from Jammu Tawi now.

Trains originate from Jammu Tawi and leave for cities like Pune, Jabalpur, Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Indore, Chhindwara, Rishikesh, Guwahati, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Mangalore, Tirunelveli, and Rourkela. The Himsagar Express to Kanyakumari is the second longest running train in the country reaching Kanyakumari in 70 hours.

The Jammu Tawi station has three platforms. The station’s cleanliness record is poor. The transport and boarding facilities available are average, but the safety aspect is good, and the sightseeing possibilities are excellent. As many as 127 trains pass from the station every day.

Facilities at the Jammu Tawi Railway Station –

Passengers can book the retiring rooms here in advance for a maximum stay of two days by showing a valid ID card and the PNR number of the ticket. They can make bookings online or with the help of the booking clerk at the station’s retiring rooms. Passengers can book the retiring rooms up to two months in advance. The station may not allow women in dormitory-type retiring rooms. The dormitory has 15 beds at Rs50 per bed. The station has 6 AC/ non-AC double-bed retiring rooms at Rs200 per day.

Famous Food of Jammu –

Hindu Dogras, who dominate the Jammu population, are mostly vegetarian. Rice, wheat and beans preparations dominate their food. Different types of rice dishes form part of the meals. Preparations of green leafy vegetables are quite tasty and highly nutritious. Many dishes use lotus root as an ingredient. Jammu cuisine shows many different influences.

Kashmiri Pandits, now in Jammu, do not use onions and garlic. Many Muslims avoid the use curd and asafetida. Popular dishes include ladyar tsaman, rajmah, nadeir yakhaen, Kashmiri pulaow, zafrani pulao, and aloo dum. Saffron and dry fruits like raisins, almonds and walnuts are used liberally. Milk cake, chocolate barfi without cocoa, and the kud chocolate made in pure ghee are some of Jammu’s popular sweets.

Okhla railway station or OKA is a station that is controlled by the Delhi Division of Indian Railways and is an important station in this area. Overview of Vadodara Railway Station – BRC

Vadodara Railway Station, the main station of Vadodara, Gujarat is one of the busiest in the state and the nation. It is the major stop on the western railway zone of the Indian Railways. Built in the year 1861 by Maharaja Khanderao Gaekwad, the station was connected to Bombay, Baroda and Central Indian Railway Company. The station was later re-constructed in the year 1954. Completing 150 years of establishment, there were celebrations on 9^th January, 2010. Shuttling through this station are major trains like August Kranti Rajdhani Expresss, Golden Temple Mail, Mumbai Rajdhani Express, Avantika Express and Trivandrum Rajdhani Express.

Three railway lines within the station are a straight line connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the next being a line between Vadodara and Chhote Udepur and a Delhi line via Ratlam, Kota and Mathura. Trains traversing the northern region use the Ratlam line. All the other trains including the Gujarat Mail, the Suryanagri Express, the Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express and the Ranakpur Express shuttle through the Ahmedabad- Mumbai line. There are about seven platforms in the station.

The Railway Staff College trains all levels of Indian Railway officers from probationers to General Managers. Rich in flora, the campus is spread across 55 acres of land of the Pratap Vilas Palace at Lalbaug, Vadodara.

Vadodara Railway Station Facilities –

For the convenience of passengers, latest facilities have been introduced in the station premises. This station is the first Western Railways station to get a biometric machine for passenger reservation. A passenger friendly system, it generates a token based on thumb impression of a person who wishes to book a ticket. Thwarting the system of booking multiple train tickets, this machine allows the passenger to register again only after three hours.

Two escalators have also been constructed on Platform No. 1 for the convenience of women and old. There are provisions of cloak rooms and waiting rooms as well.
