All About Indian Railway Tatkal Ticket  Schemes

The Tatkal Ticket Schemes is one of the most popular reservation facilities offered by Indian Railways for passengers who need to travel at short notice. Introduced to help last-minute travelers, the Tatkal quota allows passengers to book tickets one day before the journey date, subject to seat availability.

Today, Tatkal booking is available through the IRCTC website, RailOne App, IRCTC Rail Connect App, railway reservation counters, and authorized booking agents. Due to high demand, Tatkal tickets often get booked within minutes of opening.

Tatkal Booking Timings

Tatkal reservations open one day before the scheduled date of journey (excluding the journey date).

  • AC Classes (1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC): 10:00 AM
  • Non-AC Classes (SL, 2S): 11:00 AM

Passengers are advised to log in a few minutes before the booking window opens, especially during peak travel seasons.

Valid ID Proofs for Tatkal Travel

At least one valid photo identity proof must be carried during the journey. Accepted IDs include:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Voter ID Card
  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • PAN Card
  • Government-issued Photo Identity Card
