There are two types of Chambal Express trains: one Chambal Express starts from Mathura Junction which has the train number 12178 and another is train number 12176 which starts from Gwalior Junction. There are almost 29 stops on the route of the train, and the train completes its journey when it reaches Howrah Junction.

The train number 12175 and 12177 leaves the Howrah junction 17:45 on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and reaches the Gwalior station at 17:20 next day. However, it goes to Mathura Junction and reaches Mathura at 20.30. The train number 12176 and 12178 leaves the Gwalior Junction at 7:05 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and reaches Howrah Junction on next day at 6:45 while, on Mondays, it leaves Mathura Junction at 4.20. The train totally covers the distance of 1303 kilometers in 23 hours and 40 minutes.
