An express train connecting Howrah Junction & Dehradun numbered 13009 up and 13010 down is the Doon Express. With the 12009 up functioning between Howrah and Dehradun and the reverse 13010, covers the states of W. Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. This train operates under the supervision of Eastern Railways and covers a distance of 1,557 km serving daily from Sunday to Saturday in the route. To travel this distance, the train takes 34 to 35 hours with an average speed of around 55 km/ hrs. The fair of the train does not include the extra charges of being a super fast express. Providing with an excellent seating and sleeping arrangement for the travelers, this train has comfortable provision made with AC 2 tier, AC 3 tier, Sleeper class and general unreserved classes.
Looking to the food service, there is catering service provided by the Indian Railways. The railway has also looked towards the cleanliness, arrival and departure, ticket availability and safety of passengers with all its best of arrangement. Pillows, bed sheets, towels and blankets are provided in AC compartment and pantry car is also attached to supply food and water. Although, there are several trains available in the route, Doon Express has an impression of being late by few hours in almost all its trip. Technically, the train has standard Indian Railway coaches running on a track of 1,676 mm with an operating speed of 110 km/hrs including the halting stoppages. From Dehradun, the train leaves around 20:30 hrs and reaches Kolkata at around 6:55 the third day. The traction route is electrified and is pulled by Howrah based WAP4 from Howrah Junction till Mughalsarai Junction. Then, at Lucknow or Tughalkabad with WDM 3A, that powers it for the remaining journey.
