This is how it got its name of Frontier Mail. As per the biography of Subhash Chandra Bose, he used this very train to escape from a house arrest in Calcutta to Bombay and then to Peshawar using the Frontier Mail service. It has also been mentioned in the biography of famous actor Prithviraj Kapoor, who used Frontier mail to travel from his hometown in Peshawar to Mumbai in 1928 for acting in movies. It was also the first train in India to get air conditioning services in 1934. Even the radio facility was first provided to Frontier Mail back in the day.
